“I had always been really keen on my weight training but didn’t have a scoooooooby when it came to nutrition. “Arms day” everyday was my approach to training and my post-workout was usually a night in Dusk/Fubar.

Whilst training at Stirling Uni, I began speaking to Joe after hearing about him finishing 1st place at his first physique competition. I was interested in having him as a coach as I had seen first hand from seeing him in the gym the differences and improvements he had made during comp prep. I needed a coach to be someone I could pick up the phone to, email/message whenever I needed, and someone I could basically trust!

After getting started with Joe I quickly began to lose the kg’s of fat that I had put on through the form of bagel-mania (sport where competitors consume as many bagels as possible with a 7 day window) and 1,000 calorie protein shakes. I noticed differences very quickly from committing to the programme.

More than a year later I have dramatically changed the way I look and feel.. in and out the gym. Joe has introduced me to a more efficient lifestyle where I have a perfect balance of socialising, enjoying good food, hammering training, and loving life.

Since starting with JPhysique I have dropped over 10kg, competed in 2 physique competitions, and achieved everything I wanted (at first). However I’m always hungry for more, and this is just the beginning of my journey with Joe as a coach.”

“Joe has been a massive part in my life for the past 4 years. Not only guiding me to the best physique I have ever had but also teaching me life skills along the way.

I have always trained since the start of university and was seeing slow progress however my diet was never on point and I loved the odd night out a week.

During my third year of university, I finally decided to take my nutrition and training seriously and not only did it have an impact on my physique but my whole life changed. I went from being lazy and negative to having a positive outlook on everything I did.

When I teamed with joe I was able to show consistency and dedication to my training/ nutrition that I knew I had but I needed someone like joe to bring it out of me.

I went from over eating on food to controlling every aspect of my diet and I soon saw changes in my physique. The diet was simple eat whole foods and be flexible with your choices. The whole process was enjoyable and I was able to understand why and what joe was doing which was amazing.

The training was outstanding I had the pleasure of training with the man himself. The training was outstanding always planned and aimed towards our end goal. Due to my diet and training being on point, I saw my lifts increase each week which was what I was missing before I started joes programme.

I enjoyed every part of the nutrition and training and joe was there every step of the way. This guy brings out the best in people and he has had a massive impact on the person I am today. I cannot speak highly enough of joe his passion and knowledge for fitness is up there with the best.

I learnt a lot from the whole process and having the right mindset was key to my success. If your looking to not only get in shape but for someone to change your whole outlook on life then joe will guide and push you through the whole process.”

“I feel as though I may as well join the band wagon and post my thoughts/ journey. I feel as though it is fitting as I am now the longest standing client…. couple of days off 2 years now.. hope you haven’t forgotten our anniversary present Joe Parish.

Anyway, I joined at the end of second year at university. I had been training for the best part of a year and half and thought I was massive. Wearing my small classic Gymshark logo top that hugged the sleeves I walked round like I was ‘top dog’. How I laugh at myself now.

My last brief post about what motivated me to start Jphysique was true…. Jake Fifer’s transformation is what made me join. I basically tried to cut, had literally no idea, had no consistency and no drive to cut. I just wasn’t accountable to anyone but myself and… meh if I didn’t do I wasn’t that bothered. I did want to get lean but I just needed that accountability and someone to basically tell me what to do. So when I saw Joe’s post about Jake’s transformation I just had to get on board.

Since being on JPhysique pretty much my entire outlook on life has changed. It has taught me so many skills that can be applied to different aspects of life. My self-control and discipline when it comes to food is ridiculous. I still feel guilty for having a biscuit even though I’m on my bulk…. I say A biscuit… Im 1 month on from the Scottish and almost 8kg heavier. Definitely all muscle though….

Anyway my discipline has not only been shown in my food antics during comp prep, but also by how I apply myself to tasks. Many would say I am too passionate or do too much but I will do whatever it takes to get to where I want. I had to be disciplined because I started prepping for competitions when I was in my last two years of uni, especially this last semester. I really wanted a 1st for my degree but that doesn’t come easy, and I also wanted to compete.. which also doesn’t come easy.

The past 2 years I have been the most focused I have ever been and achieved so many things I would never have thought I could. Thanks to Joe I have developed into a hardworking, organised, (not so shredded anymore) geek who, when he has a goal will do anything to get it. Geek sounds bad, but I mean I can talk to someone all day about macros, which is pretty geeky tbh if you look at it 🙁

It’s not been easy, the student norm is to go out and get pissed all the time. Although I didn’t want that it has been hard to sit by and watch it. I did get jealous hearing all the antics from my mates about the night before and all the banter they had while I’m tucking into my bowl of 8 weetabix. But it is something I just got over, because I had other things that were more important to me than getting pissed.

Through JPhysique I am proud to say I have managed to get 3rd place at the Scottish in 2015, I have stood up on stage at the British Finals along with Joe and best physiques in the UK and I have managed to improve on that this year and get 1st Place. But its not only the physique awards that have been a highlight of it. I have channeled the drive into different my degree and can say I have achieved the grade I wanted to achieve, I have channeled the drive and work ethic into a business, Shape Performance, which just launched last month and is going really well… its going to be a long time before it is at the level I want it to be but with where the things are going it will happen.

For those who want to know a bit more about the company just head over to the website, www.shapeperformance.com and take a look. I can hook you up with a discount if something takes your fancy 😀 If not go like our facebook page Shape Performance Fitness

All in all, if I were to sum up what I have gained from JPhysique in one sentence, apart from a physique that makes Steve Cook’s look basic….. I’m joking. But in all seriousness I have learnt that when you have a goal, whatever that goal is just go out and get it, it doesn’t matter what other people think, you don’t do it for them. Do it for yourself.

“I’ve got to give credit where it’s due. Working with joe has been life changing. I first contacted Joe 11 weeks ago as a guy who was almost convinced I’d never feel healthy and happy with myself.

Over the past year or two I’ve had nothing but bad luck with illness and injuries from rugby. From a row of severe concussions leading me to walk away from rugby expecting never medically being allowed to play again to countless infections all over my body with the final straw being me admitted to hospital for an immediate operation. Trying to juggle my fitness and nutrition was a nightmare and I was jumping on every bandwagon convinced it was going to get me back in shape.

Honestly I tried about every diet approach possible. I was carb back loading, intermittent fasting, IIFYM ect and even strange combinations of them all. With trying to lose weight on my own I was training all the time up to 3-4 hours everyday and when the plateau came I thought my only option was to train harder for longer until I finally ran out of options. This is when I brought in Joe to guide me through the process. I was absolutely gobsmacked with my initial chat with Joe.

The guys passion for what he does led me to trust him to do as he asked. Things were planned and controlled, I was eating more and training a lot less and seeing twice the results. I was expecting the polar opposite to what I got with my nutrition, Joe gave me the freedom to cook and eat the foods I enjoyed aslong as I kept within my set calorie/macro guidelines.

The training pushed me to the point it was hard, not impossible but enough to change my body and keep things progressive and interesting. I honestly feel now not only a new man but more educated about fitness and nutrition.

I have Joe to thank for giving me the guidance I needed to get my life and health back together. For an online coach the feedback and continued support you get from Joe is priceless. Thank you Joe. You’ve had a huge positive impact on my life.”

“The JPhysique program has completely changed my perspective on nutrition and training. My goal was to build lean muscle and get shredded, so I signed up to the JPhysique program. On my journey to reaching my goal I adopted a much healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, that not only had major benefits for my physique but was also very beneficial for work at university and other areas of my life outside the gym. The JPhysique program is not a fad, it is a lifestyle choice.”

“I used to be a real party girl, drinking a LOT of alcohol, my meals were the likes of cheese toasties and cheesy pasta. After University life I knew I wasn’t healthy and wanted to get fitter and stronger but I was clueless about fitness and nutrition. My endless cardio sessions only got me so far and I wanted to do more.

Joe introduced me to the benefits of using free weights and how it would help me get the body I aspired too. It was tough to believe him as I was in the frame of mind that weights would make me look like a man. I feel so silly now and only wished I knew sooner. Not only did he help me with my training  but I learned a lot about my body and how to fuel it. I think we got my calories up to 3000 at one point. It was great I felt so energised and along with that I started to see my abs and my bum & shoulders got rounder and tighter.

The hardest part of having a personal trainer is putting your full trust in them, a lot of my friends questioned my actions of using weights and eating lots of food that I was scared they where right but I kept my trust in Joe. When I started to see changes so did my friends and family. They now are coached by Joe or do similar types training.

I can’t think of that turning point when my life changed because with Joe it was a slow gradual progress over a year or so and it has become a new sustainable lifestyle that I now love and keep.  Looking back, I worry at what life would have been like if I didn’t meet Joe.

Joe still trains me now for bodybuilding competitions;

  • I recently placed 2nd and received my Pro Card at Pure Elite World Championships,
  • I also placed 2nd at the Pure Elite Nationals.

I couldn’t have done any of it without Joe’s continuous support and motivation. Also the rest of team @JPhysique, everyone supports each other, it’s a great community to be a part of.  Everyone has a sense of common understanding and knows what you are going through and they are happy to have a laugh about it or provide some motivation.”

“I’ve always considered myself as a sporty active person, I played many different sports at school and had never been aware of my body shape until I went travelling for 8 months age 18.

Over those 8 months I put on a significant amount of weight due to a combination of losing the structure of school sport, eating whatever I wanted and constant drinking and going out.

Starting university heavier than I’d ever been wasn’t ideal; by joining sport again I lost some of that weight but continuing to neglect my diet and going out all the time meant I never regained bypre-travelling figure.

After leaving university I finally felt that it was time to take control again, get back to a health body shape as well as kick the bad habits I’d developed over the years.

Before I started my 3 month health kick I was very nervous about how I would be able to fit the food planning and workouts around a full time job (which includes a total of commuting 2hrs a day) and a busy social life– that was until I spoke to Joe and the Fit4Everything team. My 3month plan was co-ordinated by Fit4Everything, who created the program in a structured, easy to follow way as well as executing it extremely professionally which was such a big part of my motivation allowing me to understand exactly what I had to doand what was expected of me. Throughout the entire process Joe has supported and encouraged me to continue my journey and praised all my achievements, nomatter how small. The supplements provided by BulkPowders and the organisation by Fit4Everything truly made me feel supported and helped maintained the nutritional side of the plan.

I think I found the first few weeks the most difficult as I was desperate to see results and, in hindsight, probably looking for a reason to say it wasn’t working and give up. By taking weekly photos Joe was able to physically show me changes that he could see in my body shape week by week, that at that point I was not able to see. It was so motivating to have someone specifically telling me what part of me was improving and where we could aim to see improvements next.

The food planning was difficult and time consuming at first, it was so helpful to have someone so knowledgeable to ask questions aswell as get hints and tips from, including snacking on the go and making the right choices at social events! In time the food planning just became part of my weekly routine and, with constant feedback I was able to know what my daily macros (protein, fat, carbohydrate) were without having to record every food item in exact.

The workout program was probably what I was the most nervous and excited about, I decided that the only way I would be able to do it would be to go before work and get it out of the way. Now let me tell you I am NOT a morning person but there was something encouraging about the fact that the hideous hours I would wake up at (usually 5:30am) was to do something for me and not just getting up to go to work, it also meant that although I was knackered I had already achieved something each morning before even starting my commute!

Overall I have been absolutely thrilled with the results, losing 10kg in 3months was something I never even dreamed was possible, I am so truly grateful to Joe, Fit4Everything and BulkPowders who supported my journey and I am motivated to continue my journey with my knew found skills and knowledge.

To anyone considering starting their own journey, what I would say is – stop making excuses, you do have time it’s just about being organised and making the most of every single day. Surround yourself with knowledgeable, positive people such as Joe who was an invaluable part my success (particularly when I was having down days!) and the team at Fit4Everything who co-ordinated the entire program and were able to support my progress. Lastly, don’t make unrealistic goals. If you aim to improve then you are able to work hard and see where it takes you, bit by bit you will get there and by staying on track you’ll be one step closer to being the happier, healthier version of yourself”

“Having followed Joe’s Facebook page with great interest for some time, I finally decided to sign up when he posted fantastic progress pictures of another client that made me fancy the challenge myself! The ‘Before’ condition of the particular client replicated the condition I was in before I started working with Joe. So why could I not get the same results?

Prior to the support and guidance I’ve now had, I made many classic schoolboy errors with regards to training and nutrition! I thought I could bulk simply by lifting heavy and eating loads! This is very evident in my ‘Before’ picture; I can now honestly say that I see training and nutrition in a completely different light thanks to the awesome work Joe does with not only me but each of his clients! I have other close friends who work with Joe and are equally as pleased.

I explained to Joe that I worked away from home on a 3 on 3 off basis with limited equipment in the gym while I’m away. Joe designed a tailor made programme to suit both the gym at work and my gym I use when at home. Nutrition wise there were a few obstacles due to the buffet style meals on offer when at work, however we devised a plan which allowed me to hit the desired macros and maintain the consistency required throughout my trip.

My first 16 weeks were hard work, intensive, tiring, and at times very difficult but still enjoyable. It’s fair to say Joe put me through my paces training up to 8 times per week but the plan gave me the structure I needed to stay on track aided by Joe’s continual support. There were definitely times when I needed the support and it was always there!

Having recently signed up to my second 16 week block I cannot wait to improve my condition further and continue to push the boundaries. For me personally, having the accountability to Joe definitely keeps you motivated and gives you the extra push to work hard to achieve your goals.

I would recommend Joe to anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness and feel they need support, guidance or even just the accountability that I have had since the beginning of the year. The passion Joe has for his job is outstanding and very evident in his own achievements! I have no doubt he can help anyone at all.

Good luck to all!”

“Having been a friend of Joe’s for a while, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and take my training and physique up a notch.

Every step of the way has been rationalised and explained and no question has been left unturned or deemed stupid.

When we ramped up the calories around December time I was hitting PB’s every week and really putting on quality size, however, the time came where we had to drop things back down in preparation for those summer beach days!

Whilst it was really hard at times, Joe provided me with an excellent level of flexibility through his nutrition plans which allowed me to have meals out with my girlfriend, friends and family on a weekly basis.

I also maintained a reasonable student social life, as I was able to factor an occasional night out into my program.

I can’t thank Joe enough for his efforts during the time I have spent with him. I have seen some really positive results which are now sustainable and can be built upon”

Developing healthy eating habits is a must if you want to excel in Muay Thai. Fueling your body properly will help you push through tough training sessions, recover from them and get the best results. Take your nutrition as seriously as you take your training and I guarantee you’ll see huge differences.

Here’s an recent 8 week transformation/fight camp of one of our coaches and fighters at the club.
Campbell lost 5+ KG following a basic calorie deficit meal plan with a carb front loading strategy used in the last two weeks to drop extra water/glycogen held in your muscles purely to decrease the number on the scales, so. He could make weight for his fight.

Although the fight was cancelled it shows his nutrition was on point, which is great motivation going into the next fight camp, knowing he had done it correct.

A big thank you to @joeparish for guidance and personal coaching for Campbell to reach this stage. A highly recommend nutrition coach for aesthetics and performance.

Joe has been a massive help to me over the past 6 months. Before working with Joe my gym sessions lacked structure and regularity; I would always work hard in the gym however I would often just go with the flow in a session and do exercises that I felt like. I was committed yet without someone to be check in with regularly I fond myself missing the odd gym session here and there, which obviously all add up. With the help of Joe I was able perform regular structure sessions that were all aimed towards one goal; also with the constant check ins, it meant that I was able to see the progress that I was making which only boosts your motivation.

The nutritional side had the biggest impact on me. Before working with Joe, my idea of good sports nutrition was making sure I had a protein shake after a work out and eating carbs the morning of a game. However with a properly balanced nutritional program I was able to optimise performance in the gym and on the pitch. The biggest thing that I learnt however was that eating well didn’t mean brown rice chicken and broccoli every night; I was still able to eat most of the foods that I liked and go for meals with friends and family. I just had to make sure hat I trained hard and planned my food well.”

“Quite a contrasting situation from this time last year. Around the same time in 2014 I dieted myself down for a holiday and tapered my calories pretty low (1700-1800). Excessive cardio sessions. and to be quite honest, my weight sessions sucked. I thought I felt ok but I was kidding myself. Looking back, I was deflated, depleted and needed a pizza or two.

A few mistakes were made and I felt like I was going backwards. I knew I wasn’t in a good place and had to reverse out of the big deficit I created and looked for help from Joe.

Under Joes instruction and his vast knowledge base along with his previous transformations, I knew I was in good hands. This put my mind at ease and I quickly had a much better relationship with training and nutrition. With Joes help we increased my caloric load and looked to gain some lean tissue. Now a year on I am the leanest I have ever been and just under 10lbs heavier. Using less cardio and eating more food. More importantly I am enjoying my training a lot more, keeping myself consistent by using a flexible approach. Thanks again for all your help Joe it is much appreciated #jphysique.”

“After spending the majority of my life being a competitive endurance athlete, when I decided to start going to the gym regularly, I quickly realised how little understanding or awareness I had. I went in with no sessions plans and basically just copied any exercise I saw someone do.

Eventually I bit the bullet and asked my good friend Joe for some help. Joe understood my lifestyle with both of us being in the serious end of our university degree. On top of this I still did enjoy nights out with my friends. The programme had no effect on either.

I am fully satisfied with what I have received, gaining results I am happy with but more importantly knowledge that I can use regularly in the future. Any changes throughout the programme felt subtle and sustainable plus Joe was always in contact to answer questions. What I thought would be a strict vigorous challenge was infact an enjoyable experience through the provision of flexibility and continuous on hand information from Joe. This allowed changes which suited my needs at different times. Thanks buddy, very much appreciate the effort you’ve provided towards me.”

“Working with Joe over the past 12 weeks has been a real eye opener.

My main goal for going to the gym has been to try and grow, and after three years of university with boring workouts and a laid back approach to diet, I had made little progress.

I’ve known Joe for 7 or 8 years and knew he was a guy who was approachable and definitely knows what he is talking about.

As soon as we got started I began to see changes in strength and how I was looking, increasing food nearly every week, and training harder and smarter. At first it was a shock to the system to how much I had to eat, but I had complete trust in Joe that he knew what he was doing.

The variety of food was something else, as you assume chicken, rice and broccoli is all you can eat, whereas I was eating all sorts of food that I liked, including my favourite pizza on the weekend and still getting leaner, stronger and growing in size.

The knowledge I’ve gained about eating, and about training smarter has really helped me make a start towards my goal and what I want to achieve and I can’t wait to do it all over again.

On top of the workouts and nutrition, Joe is genuinely a guy who cares about how you are doing, keeping in constant contact about how things are going with workouts and general life, and the support from him throughout was exactly what I needed to stay disciplined and on track.”

I have always been an active person but it came with a price…my internal battle with myself. I invested a lot of time, effort and money and a forever niggling feeling I was never fully happy with the way my body looked. I never thought I was overweight but could never understand why, if I went to the gym 5-6 days a week, worked hard and ate a relatively good diet, that nothing ever changed and I still carried excess weight around my abdominal area and hips. This then lead to eating less but on the other hand made me crave for the foods I eliminated which, I would overeat on and be agitated if I could not get to the gym or spin to work off the calories. This never proved effective as I lacked energy and only serving a purpose to 1) Get rid of the excess calories I consumed 2) Rid me off the guilt and 3) Exercise ended up becoming a chore and took away the whole purpose / point in exercising.

Fed up investing, time, effort and money and wondering where I was going wrong, I contacted Joe and from the off-set everything was made achievable. I trusted Joe from our first consultation.

The hardest part, for me, was getting my head around eating so much more than I ever have and weighing and preparing the food but this only lasted for a couple of weeks after which it became a part of my routine and easy to fit into my lifestyle. Due to my training programme I actually looked forward to cooking and eating the food, not only because the nutrition plan was tasty but my body enjoyed the extra food and I had so much more energy. The benefits were quickly apparent.

Initially I contacted Joe regarding the excess weight however five months later I have developed a great relationship between food and exercise and understand how these two work together. My thinking towards exercise and food has changed completely and remarkably for five months I have not had an internal battle with myself. I feel energised to deal with training, university life and life in general, I feel great and the sense of achievement has had a knock on effect in others areas of my life.

For many years I have had a vision of what I wanted my body to look like and a few weeks ago I looked in the mirror, and said, that’s it that’s the vision I had and although Joe praises me for my efforts it was actually Joe that done all the hard work as he made the whole process easy, achievable, realistic and enjoyable for me. His enthusiasm and determination to help you succeed goes beyond his job and I cannot thank Joe enough for helping me achieve my goal that will last a lifetime.

I’d been following Joe on Facebook and Instagram for quite some time and was always interested in knowing his training style, how he maintained his physique and got his clients into such good shape.

Myself and my wife had been with a Different PT for a 16 week transformation, and although I was happy with my results at the time, I decided I wanted a fresh approach, a different perspective. I didn’t have a way of maintaining where I was…and although I’d followed a plan…the plan came to an end and I was left lost, and thinking “what do I do now”.

From the moment I first contacted joe I felt like he really wanted to coach me, to help me achieve my goals and to get me into the best shape of my life.

This has to be the best decision I have ever made, and, to this day am still working with Joe on new objectives and goals.

He helped me to re-establish a healthy relationship with food and my social life, making sure that I enjoyed life as it should be.

I’d previously turned down social occasions fearing that it would hamper my progress, I’d taken tupperwares with me, and generally just lived on the old school chicken/brocolli/rice kinda thing.

Joe taught me that you can enjoy your food, and make it fun to eat, whilst at the same time working to achieve your goal.

The training plans were easy to follow and highly effective.

My strength was improving on a weekly basis, as was my conditioning.
The nutrition plans were great and although I didn’t need to stick to them to the letter, they proved very useful and they varied so much that I didn’t need to think of any other meal ideas.

Joe was always available on the phone if I was ever unsure about things, or needed a bit of a pep-talk. His reassurance was something that kept me on track, and I can’t thank him enough for the time he spent talking me through things.
His weekly check in took all of five minutes, and then I’d get a call the next day to talk though it, which again proved useful as there were always a few things that id forgot to write on the check in.

If I hadn’t joined the #Jphysique family, then I don’t know where I’d be now, except probably back to square one, searching for ideas and clues in how to achieve what I want.

I’ve just completed a photo shoot arranged by Joe, followed by a Dexa scan just to see where I’m at. Well, I never expected to get my bodyfat down to 12.2% at the age of 34.
If you are serious about getting the results you want, then you need to get in touch with Joe, and I promise you won’t look back!

“I’m finally doing my introduction.  Feel today is a perfect day to share with u my journey so far after Michelle and I won BNBF yesterday.
My journey goes years back.  Started off an overweight size 16(but kidded myself on I was a 14 as buying a 16 shamed me 🙈, wasn’t a good look) I lost weight but had no idea what I was doing and starved myself. I tried every diet under the sun but mainly stayed low carbs AND low calories. I’d batter out around 15 classes a week plus joked around in the gym plus i ran. I was constantly chasing numbers on the scales but cldnt manage to get lean enough.  I ran a marathon to tick a box on the bucket list but also hoped it would bring the fat on my legs down, it didn’t obviously.
At that point I was 66kg, couldn’t get under that number. I was battering out classes(I’m an instructor so it’s my job, love getting paid to do what I love) plus I was marathon training but I was only eating around 1400 cals most days! WTF?!!!!!!!!!
After this I did my nutrition course through Ben Coomber and as I was learning more I knew I had to fix my health, I was starving myself then running myself into the ground and binging out! Sometimes I would secret eat. I’m ashamed and sad to admit I was this girl. Once I started eating I couldn’t stop! It was disgusting. I raised my calories to around 2000 a day but it became too much for me mentally. I had been following Joe for a while and I loved his way of speaking(not just the accent 😂) and attitude and just knew we would hit it off well! And we did! We planned long term how to get he stage ready, mapped a timeline and did it. It hasn’t been easy, eating 3000kcals per day and gaining weight on the scales was a mental struggle. But I had to do it to gain size and to raise my very low caloric ceiling. He has been not only my coach and mentor but also my friend(and therapist 😂) He is always there for me when I need him and we have a fantastic relationship. My boyfriend will say…plz go and call Joe! 😂
I’m sure we can all agree that he’s a phenomenal coach. I love the team we have going on here under JPhysique. Full of positivity and I have met some great friends through this 💕 many of u I haven’t met yet but even just through seeing ur posts on here and through joes comments makes me feel I already know some of you”

Wait I can get ripped but eat more than chicken and broccoli?”

I’m Ally I’m a personal trainer and have been for 4 years, I’ve trained in gyms or played sports nearly all my life, on top of that I’m also type 1 diabetic which can make life a little bit harder.

Over the years I’ve trained in numerous ways, been in numerous shapes and I’ve been really lean but if I’m honest I was stuck in a rut I ate good Monday to Friday, had way too many drinks at the weekend then battered myself in the gym to punish myself I had lost the enjoyment.

I wanted a coach so I could progress in all aspects not just my physique but also myself as a person. You learn from spending time with people who are at the top of their game.

I have worked with Joe for a year and I chose him not because he’s sponsored or occasionally ripped (sorry joe) but because he showed interest he asked questions and even had some jokes from the get go, a fitness coach with banter is rare. Through that year I’ve went from a guy who was in decent shape but all over the place in my head to stepping on stage, building my character and being a low single figure body fat.

Joe helped me with workouts, nutrition which was flexible and suited to me, lifestyle, my mindset which was a massive one he scraped me off the floor more times than I can tell you but most importantly he’s helped me improve as a pt and teach me there’s more to life than having a 6pack.

Most importantly I’ve gained a mate who has helped me progress and also has the patience of a saint because I’m highly annoying.

So I’ve been in the fitness/ gym industry for 2 and a bit years now. Since qualifying as a Level 3 Personal Trainer I’ve gain so much experience from being in the thick of it. Being at Aiden Jones Weight Loss and Fitness I’ve learned tonnes of knowledge from the guys I work alongside (and still do!). Yet there had always been this little piece of me that wanted to learn a little more from others in the same profession, outside of where I worked. One thing always held me back though. That was the thought of feeling like I’m cheating myself. I thought that if I was in this profession then I should know what to do, that I could write my own programme and know how to follow a plan to get me where I wanted to be. Then it occurred to me. That coaches and trainers get help from other coaches and trainers. That they learned from one-another and that’s not a bad thing. It’s always good to change things up and get some advice from elsewhere. That’s when it clicked for me and I knew I wouldn’t be ‘cheating’ myself.

So, when I knew of my incredible sister was getting married in Tuscany, Italy, I wanted to be ‘in shape, looking and feeling my best’ (I hadn’t had a holiday for 5 years!) that’s when I contacted my old friend Joe. (Joe Parish) I saw his posts and body composition transformations and knew he’d be the one to talk to about training and nutrition.

I know how to train in a way; sets, reps, tempo and weight selection. But as I say, having someone else write a programme for me allowed me to be way more focused, motivated and gave me a drive as it was from someone’s vision/ background. Nutrition isn’t my strongest point I’ll admittedly say! I’m still learning now, but I understood the basics and Joe helped me to get to grips with it all and how to manage it all. This all kicked off about half way through October ’15 after I recovered from a shoulder injury and man was I excited. The whole thing was thoroughly enjoyable. Having different phases to follow and look forward to every 3/4 weeks kept me motivated and pushed me to do better. As I didn’t know what was coming each phase, I had exercises I hadn’t done for a while, different reps schemes, different tempo’s. I loved it. Of course the amount of food was epic too! Eating loads of the right things was brilliant, and I could see it all piecing together.

From where I was to where I got to was a great journey for me. I have learned much from Joe and I cannot thank the man enough. We had some laughs along the way, and most of the time when he contacted me I had either just finished eating or was eating haha! I’m now looking forward to setting myself a new goal and training hard to get there. (Bring on Xmas 2016) Thank you Joe, it’s been awesome!

Super chuffed for Michelle taking 2nd at the BNBF Miss Figure last week 🏆
Now for our biggest challenge yet.. Keeping her looking amazing for her wedding in a few weeks 😅

“I started my fitness journey about 5 years ago when I went backpacking through Asia, spent a few months living & training in a Muay Thai camp & from there I have never looked back 😀

In that 5 years I’ve followed a fair bit of not so great advice & made a lot of mistakes along the way… but hey mistakes aren’t really mistakes if we learn & grow from them & come out the other side stronger & better than before 💪🏼
If you remember Joes post the other day about all the things he believed about fitness in the past I’m pretty sure I could tick all of them off also 🙈

In competing this year I decided to do my own diet & prep & when I was 2 weeks out from my 1st show I realised I needed help from a professional… someone who had great knowledge on nutrition, would help me do things in a more efficient, effective & sustainable way & were well respected in the industry. And in stepped Joe 🙂

Since then we have changed so much in the way of both nutrition & training & i’ve never felt better for it.
I’m learning so much in the process & enjoying getting better results without running myself into the ground (I was guilty of overtraining & not taking enough rest days before)

I’m now looking forward to making some progress over the coming months & focusing on a balanced lifestyle with the help of Joe.
Excited for the new chapter & am so glad to be on board with jphysique, what a great team to be part of” 😊

I joined JPhysique just over a year ago, after completing my own personal training course, which was lead by Joe Parish. I had been training for a couple of years without any structure and had previously attempted my own “summer cut” and “winter bulk” without a great amount of knowledge on nutrition or how to seriously go about the processes.

After speaking to Joe about his online coaching I felt as though it would be something that would benefit me, not just from the aspect of building a better physique but provide the opportunity to continually learn from someone who has been in the industry a lot longer and has more knowledge than I do.

When I started with Joe in June 2015 I was in the middle of a cut for my summer holiday to Vegas, but with Joe’s guidance we decided to start a early bulk as I was pretty lean and this would give me more time to put on more muscle while keeping my body fat as low as possible. Putting the size on was a bit of a challenge, we had to build calories up from 3000 per day to over 5000 lol, until we started to notice a change on the scales and in my physique. From June 2015 to March 2016 my weight went from 77kg to 85.5kg and I became a bit bigger and chunkier. After gaining a bit of size, this allowed me to go on a 16 week cut for my holiday this year, in which im the lightest I have been since starting with Joe, down to 75kg but looking leaner, bigger and fuller than I was previously.

Not only has Joe helped me to build a better physique but he has improved my knowledge and understanding when it comes to training and nutrition and developed my mindset from being a guy that wanted to go out every weekend and get on it to someone that is more driven, motivated and less concerned with what other people think. I can’t speak highly enough of Joe and everything he’s done for me over the past year and can’t wait to get back from my holidays to continue training with Joe, cheers for everything so far mate.

“I sat down to write bit about myself and my story so far and my first thought was that I didn’t really have one.  You hear so many inspriational stories of weight loss and huge transformations and I haven’t got anything like that to tell you but then I realised everyone has their own personal story with their owns barriers, struggles and successes, so here’s mine.

I was an active child and teenager, never really sitting still and eating what I wanted without giving it a second thought and not needing to.  I have always had a healthy appetite and it was only after finishig uni when I started working full time time that I became aware of what I was eating and how little I was moving.

I worked in an office environment and deciding what to have for lunch was quite often the highlight of the day. On top of that it was always someones birthday and there seemed to be an endless supply of cakes and biscuits floating around.

I have never been overweight but I certainly started to notice that I couldn’t eat the way I used to.

I then did just as many people do in the quest to get in better shape, I cut my food down considerably and increased my exercise in the hope of getting leaner.  I would go through phases of eating Special K, cuppa soups, slim fast, I think Ive tried it all.

I would then reward myself at the weekend for being ‘good’ all week with all the things I had cut out my diet during the week, wine, pizza, sweets.  On top of that I would then run for hours on end to get as sweaty as possible as I thought that if i was working really hard I  would see results. I remained ‘slim’ but I had no shape whatsoever and I was never really happy or felt confident with my body.

I worked so hard but wasn’t getting the results I wanted.  I then met my now husband who encouraged me away from the treadmill and into the ‘mens area’ of the gym AKA the weights area. Although initially daunting I did start seeing results almost straight away.

My body started to change shape, I was becoming more confident both in and out of the gym and I felt strong.  I have been consistently weight training for about 2 1/2 years now.

My biggest challenge, my relationship with food has taken slightly longer to change.  It took me a long time to realise that I was consistently undereating and so no matter how hard I tried in the gym I wasn’t making the progress I really wanted.

It has only really been in the last 12 months that this has changed. I have in the past survived on roughly 1000 calories a day.  It was a daunting process increasing my calories and at times it has been mentally tough gaining weight.

The result however is that I am now leaner that I have ever been with the shape and muscle I always wanted whilst eating almost three times as much food as I was.  No food is now off limits and along with eating a consistently high amount of calories it means I no longer feel the need to ‘treat’ myself every weekend.

I can honestly say I have never been happier and this has in turn has had a knock on effect to all aspects of my life including having the confidence to get on a stage in a bikini. I can’t wait for the next chapter of journey now!”

I have literally tried every diet under the sun. I have spent more money on online plans & supplements than most and ended up confused, bombarded with unsustainable non tailored plans and a gradual escalation in weight year upon year with the big rebounds after following bad diets. I always trained heavy and was always in the gym but my diet was shocking. I had no direction or structure and no-one to be accountable too. Started to get the weight off and decided it was time to speak to someone. I didn’t want to just be an “online client”. I wanted someone I could bond with and call a friend. Since going with TJP I have never looked back. Current weight loss is sitting at 89lbs, a better relationship with food than ever before and some big goals and sights set for 2017.

“My Transformation
July 2011 –September 2016

I catch sight of these body transformations and sometimes I can’t help but feel a bit deflated. I train consistently and always eat “well” yet I still feel a million miles off warranting a before and after post.

And with all the pictures and posts floating around on social media it’s no wonder! If you haven’t dropped a ton of weight or have developed a set of abs, then you’re made to feel as if your change or progression is quite simply not good enough. Sometimes though, psychological progression and development is just as significant and merits equal recognition.

The photo on the left was taken in July 2011. I was around 6 stone and consumed entirely with an eating disorder. I may have been smiling here but my life (if you can even call it that!) was deeply unhappy. I was a slave to these crazy and isolating routines, took food restriction to the next level and drained every ounce of energy left with extensive cardio. At the time it was impossible to imagine what it would be like to be normal again.

With professional help I did manage to put some weight on but it was only enough to stop people staring and the excessive cardio element was still very much there. I’d also tried the personal trainer route as a way of appearing like I was taking action but that was short lived as I just too damaged. I felt they didn’t understand but being honest with myself, I wasn’t willing or able to make a change.

I eventually found Joe in 2013. He was a personal trainer with zero experience in dealing with eating disorders or females as crazy as me but when we spoke about my problems and anxieties he didn’t judge. When I went into insane panic mode after he suggested eating 45g of carbs a day (god forbid!) he didn’t tell me I was stupid. When I sneaked in an extra few spin classes when I was aiming to cut down he didn’t get angry. Instead he listened, was patient and explained the rationale in an million different ways until I understood. I’d love to say change and happiness came overnight but it didn’t. He was honest from the start that it was going to take a long time to repair the physical damage to my body and to reverse the mental habits I’d created but a glimpse of a life better than the one I was living was enough to keep me going.

Fast forward a couple of years….

I’d made progress certainly. I was lifting weights more than I was doing cardio and I was eating more than I had ever been able to before. I was also in a relationship, which I never thought possible or feasible.

The problem was I was still basing progress off the number on the scales and the way my body looked. Yes I was rid of the eating disorder that had consumed me and yes, I was certainly happier than back then but was I ‘normal’? Was I free from the pressures and bad habits? Absolutely not.

Around March time I read a transformation post by Lucy Sewell. Like me, she’d battled with an eating disorder although unlike me, she’d come through the other end. I was overcome by emotion reading it as it was at that moment that I realised I have to train every single day or track every ounce of food and I didn’t need to spend all my time putting myself down simply because I didn’t match my own idea of perfection. My goal was to get to a place where I could say everything she did in that post; to accept myself for who I was and learn to be happy. A seemingly impossible task!

And now…

I put together a picture from this time last year to now and initially I noticed no difference at all. Bit annoying really. Then today I looked again and realised how far I have come. Whilst there may have been miniscule change visible in terms of body composition, there’s been massive lifestyle changes.

My posture and facial expression in the most recent one clearly reflects how unenthused I still am to be getting photos done but here I am, no fancy lighting or filters, no make-up, no mad tensing…just 100% natural, unflattering and honest. For the first time ever I looked at myself and I wasn’t repulsed by what I saw, I was content. And not only that but this picture is after an amazing 10 day trip to Barcelona where I didn’t go to the gym or track food once. This really is a huge deal for me and something I wouldn’t have imagined I could do.

I was working so hard and pushing myself so much for a crazy long time without any real idea what I was getting from it. I know it sounds well cheesey but it’s so important to find your ‘why’. It seems like an obvious goal to set to just lose weight but it’s important to recognise that doing that isn’t enough to make you happy.

Through the help of Joe and my current coach Josh, I have learnt to enjoy my training and not see it as an obligation. Through their constant support and encouragement, I am able to eat out with friends without spending the night before googling menus for the lowest calorie option in a mad panic. And I guess, most importantly, I am happy with the direction I’m heading in and certain that with a little more time and effort, I’ll be exactly where I set out to be.

Anyone that knows me knows I’m a social media phobe and very rarely (if ever!) post but I wanted to share my story in the hope that it can help or motivate just one person who has been through or is currently experiencing the same struggles.”
